Vince Steele, the beloved independent wrestler known as "The Jurassic Juggernaut," has died after suffering a medical emergency during a match on Sunday. He was 39.
Steele, a New York City native, was competing in a four-way bout at a Brii Combination Wrestling (BCW) event in Ridgefield Park, N.J., when he suffered what was described as a “cardiac event,” according to PWInsider and Fightful.
BCW addressed the tragic incident in a statement on X (formerly Twitter):
“During yesterday’s event, Vince suffered a medical emergency in the ring. We want to express our deepest gratitude to the Ridgefield Park Police Department, who were on the scene within minutes and immediately provided emergency medical assistance. Despite their rapid response and the best efforts of first responders, we tragically lost Vince.”
The promotion added:
“This is an unimaginable loss, and we ask for patience and respect as we process this tragedy. We will share more details in the coming days on how we plan to honor Vince’s incredible legacy.”
Steele had been a staple of the independent wrestling scene since 2004, performing for promotions such as Coastal Championship Wrestling (CCW) in Florida and ACE Pro Wrestling in New Jersey.
His passing has sent shockwaves through the wrestling community.
“We are heartbroken to learn about the passing of ‘The Jurassic Juggernaut’ Vince Steele. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his fans,” CCW shared on X. “Rest in peace, big man. You will forever be missed.”
Fellow wrestler Vincent Michaels also paid tribute:
“[Sunday] was the worst day of my career. Vince Steele gave everything to pro wrestling, & today he gave his life for it. Every single wrestler, referee, and crew member on hand did everything they could to keep him going & they should be proud of that. I know I am.”
The entire wrestling world is mourning the loss of “The Jurassic Juggernaut,” remembering him for his passion, dedication, and larger-than-life presence in the ring.
