TODDLER NEARLY CAUGHT IN CROSSFIRE: TWO ARRESTED AFTER WILD DAYLIGHT SHOOTOUT IN BURLINGTON CITY
Burlington County authorities have arrested two men linked to a brazen public shootout that erupted earlier this month in the East Burlington section of Burlington City—an incident that nearly injured a toddler.
According to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and City of Burlington Police Chief Ryan P. Elbertson, Shaun Causey, 38, and Jamaar White, 32, both of Burlington City, face multiple second-degree charges, including Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
White was arrested on June 16 in Burlington City and remains in the Burlington County Jail pending a detention hearing. Causey was captured two days later in Greenville, North Carolina, and awaits extradition.
The shootout occurred the afternoon of June 9, when officers responded to reports of gunfire near Bordentown Road. Investigators say the suspects exchanged multiple rounds while running along Bordentown and Columbus Roads. Neither was struck, though White suffered a graze wound.
One bullet entered a nearby home. Another hit a parked car. A two-year-old child was reportedly playing outside during the crossfire.
“Neighborhoods across Burlington County are filled with law-abiding, hard-working people just trying to raise their families,” said Prosecutor Bradshaw. “Those who turn our streets into shooting galleries to settle personal vendettas will be swiftly caught and fully prosecuted.”
The investigation was led by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and City of Burlington Police, with support from Burlington Township Police.
