The Delaware Valley has experienced a remarkable increase in tornado activity, with a 1,000 percent rise in tornadoes since 2019.
This surge contrasts sharply with previous years, where only six tornadoes occurred from 2014 to 2018. Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and Burlington County, New Jersey, have seen the most significant increase, with Bucks County experiencing 12 tornadoes and Burlington County 10 since 2019.
This trend aligns with a national shift in tornado activity towards the east, with tornadoes increasing in parts of the Midwest and South while declining in the traditional Tornado Alley region.
Climate scientists predict this eastward trend will continue, potentially leading to more frequent tornado occurrences in the Delaware Valley.
