
TWO MEN INDICTED IN FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP MURDER CASE
Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather announced the indictments of Daniel Matthews and Andrew Mumby in connection with the murder of Artis Young, a Franklin Township resident. The incident occurred on December 29, 2023, leading to the arrest and indictment of Matthews from Brooklyn, New York, and Mumby from New Brunswick. The Somerset County Grand Jury charged them with severe offenses, including 1st Degree Murder, Felony Murder, and Robbery, among others.
The investigation began when Young was reported missing on December 30, 2023, and his body was found in Brooklyn the next morning, confirmed as a homicide by the New York State Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Mumby was apprehended in New Brunswick on February 7, 2024, without incident, while Matthews was arrested in Philadelphia on March 12, 2024. Both face charges related to disturbing human remains and hindering prosecution and are currently detained at Somerset County Jail.
