19-YEAR-OLD GUTTENBERG WOMAN FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER CHAOTIC EARLY MORNING INCIDENT WITH POLICE AND EMT

A 19-year-old Guttenberg woman is facing a series of serious charges after a volatile encounter with police and emergency responders in the early hours of April 21, according to a statement from the Guttenberg Police Department.

Police were dispatched to an apartment on Jackson Street around 4:52 a.m. in response to a report of a physical altercation. Upon arrival, officers heard loud yelling coming from inside the residence and found the apartment in disarray, with food spilled and smeared on the walls.

The disturbance reportedly began when the woman, identified as Martha S. Martillo, became upset over a missing cell phone and sweater.

As officers spoke with the individual who had called for help, Martillo continued to yell uncontrollably. In an effort to prevent the situation from escalating further, officers placed her in handcuffs while they continued their investigation.

Due to her agitated state, emergency medical personnel from North Bergen were called to the scene to evaluate her. Despite their efforts to de-escalate, Martillo remained combative. Officers were eventually forced to carry her down a staircase after she refused to cooperate.

During the incident, police say Martillo kicked one officer, and later, while being secured to a stretcher outside, she spit in another officer’s eye, stating she “needed to spit.” The situation further escalated when she allegedly bit a North Bergen EMT on the forearm and later bit another officer on the leg.

After a prolonged struggle, Martillo was transported to a local hospital, where she reportedly assaulted yet another officer in the emergency room.

Martillo is now facing a slew of charges, including multiple counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement and emergency personnel, throwing bodily fluids, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

According to police, the charges were filed under a complaint warrant. Following medical clearance, Martillo will be held at the Hudson County Correctional Center.
