CAUGHT AFTER A WEEK: MAN ARRESTED FOR FATAL CITY HALL STABBING IN PATERSON
A 29-year-old Asbury Park man has been arrested in connection with the deadly stabbing of a Paterson resident outside City Hall last week, authorities announced.
According to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Jean Romelus was taken into custody on Tuesday for the October 22 killing of William Davis, 38, of Paterson.
Around 2:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing near Market and Washington Streets, just steps from Paterson City Hall. Officers found Davis suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Following an investigation, detectives identified Romelus as the suspect and arrested him less than a week later.
Romelus has been charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
If convicted, he faces a potential life sentence for the murder charge alone, officials said.
