DEADLY STANDOFF CAUGHT ON BODYCAM: NJ AG RELEASES FOOTAGE FROM WOODBRIDGE SHOOTING
Authorities have released body-worn camera footage from three officers involved in a deadly police shooting that took place in Woodbridge Township in June 2024.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office made the footage public as part of its transparency policy, which mandates the release of video evidence in fatal use-of-force cases. The incident remains under investigation by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA).
The footage captures the fatal encounter that left Karl Gregory, 46, of New York City, dead.
According to officials, the chain of events began on June 12, when an automated license plate reader flagged a vehicle linked to a New York City shooting where the victim sustained life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was later found abandoned outside the Royal Albert’s Palace Hotel on King Georges Post Road.
NYPD detectives and local officers from Edison and Woodbridge were still on scene in the early hours of June 13, when Gregory exited a hotel elevator around 12:21 a.m., carrying several bags. Upon seeing police, he dropped the bags and reached into a black backpack.
Officials say a gunfight erupted between Gregory and Woodbridge Police Officers Drew Krupinski and Justin Nerney, along with NYPD Detective Matthew Mauro. All three officers and Gregory were shot.
Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by police. A handgun was found near his body.
Officers Nerney and Mauro were treated for their injuries and later released from the hospital.
Gregory’s family was allowed to view the footage before it was made public. No additional details have been released as the investigation continues.
