A disgraced former Long Island teacher is facing disturbing new child pornography charges — months after New Jersey authorities accused him of posing as a teen to lure minors into sending explicit photos.
Ryan McCaffery, 37, appeared in Suffolk County court on Monday to be arraigned on 11 charges, including promoting a sexual performance by a child under 17 and possessing child pornography, according to court records.
The Ridge resident allegedly used Snapchat to solicit nude photos from children under 14 and engaged in sexually explicit conversations with them, police said. The incidents occurred in December, Newsday first reported.
This marks McCaffery’s second arrest in connection with child exploitation. He was previously charged in February in Bergen County, New Jersey, where investigators said he requested explicit images from two children under 13 during online chats in 2022.
Those charges stemmed from a New York State Police cybercrime probe that led to a January 17 raid on McCaffery’s home. During a joint interview with state and Bergen County detectives, McCaffery allegedly admitted to actions that prompted the Garden State charges.
McCaffery had served as a social studies teacher and coach at Riverhead High School but resigned shortly before the New Jersey allegations were made public. Riverhead school officials stated that no district students were involved in either case.
Similarly, the minors involved in the latest Suffolk County case are not connected to Riverhead schools, Newsday reported.
McCaffery pleaded not guilty and was released under non-monetary bail conditions. He’s scheduled to appear in a New Jersey courtroom on Thursday and return to Long Island court on June 16.
