FUGITIVE WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER IN BRICK TOWNSHIP CAPTURED IN NYC

Authorities in Ocean County announced the capture of Marciano Sanchez, 40, whose last known address was in Queens, New York. Sanchez, a fugitive in connection with an attempted murder in Brick Township on November 29, 2010, was apprehended in New York City on October 2 by the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit and the New York/New Jersey United States Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer confirmed that Sanchez, who had been listed on New Jersey’s Most Wanted, is currently being held at Riker’s Correctional Facility, awaiting extradition to Ocean County, New Jersey. On the day of the crime, Brick Township Police officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at the Community First Aid Building on Mantoloking Road. They found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, treated for his injuries, and later released.

A detailed investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Brick Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit concluded that Sanchez was responsible for the shooting. On December 21, 2010, Sanchez was charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and his name was entered into the National Crime Information Center database.

"After nearly 14 years, Marciano Sanchez has finally been captured and will face justice in Ocean County. We are deeply grateful to our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for their tireless efforts in pursuing this individual and ensuring the safety of our communities," said Prosecutor Billhimer.

Colonel Patrick J. Callahan, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, added, "The apprehension of one of New Jersey’s Most Wanted underscores the relentless dedication and collaboration between law enforcement agencies. By removing this dangerous criminal from our streets, we affirm that no matter how long it takes or how far they run, justice will prevail. Protecting the people of New Jersey remains our highest priority, and we will continue to use every available resource to hold fugitives accountable."
