
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING WOMAN IN THE FACE IN SADDLE BROOK
Authorities in Bergen County have announced the arrest of 53-year-old Raymond M. Carey of Hasbrouck Heights on charges related to an attempted murder involving a crossbow in Saddle Brook.
The arrest followed an investigation led by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, under Chief Matthew Finck, and the Saddle Brook Police Department, under Chief John Zotollo.
Incident Details
On Monday, February 17, at approximately 5:55 p.m., Saddle Brook police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a seriously injured woman at a business on Route 46 East. Officers arrived to find an adult female victim who had been shot in the face with an arrow from a crossbow. The suspect had fled before police arrived.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and survived the attack.
Investigation and Arrest
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Saddle Brook Police Department launched a joint investigation. Authorities determined that the suspect, a previous customer, entered the business at 104-106 Route 46 East and shot the female employee with a crossbow.
Despite being wounded, the victim managed to disarm the suspect before escaping to a neighboring business for help. The suspect fled in a vehicle parked outside.
Investigators identified the suspect as Raymond M. Carey and launched a manhunt. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, and the Manchester Township Police Department, assisted in the search.
Less than 24 hours later, on Tuesday, February 18, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Carey was located and arrested in Pine Beach, N.J. The arrest was carried out with the assistance of the FBI, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, the Saddle Brook Police Department, and the Manchester Township Police Department.
Charges and Detainment
Carey has been charged with:
- First-degree attempted murder
- Third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Fourth-degree obstruction of the administration of law
Following his arrest, Carey was transported back to Bergen County, where he was placed in the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office. He is awaiting his first court appearance at Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
