Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrates a Community That Makes Up Nearly 1 in 4 New Jerseyans

Hispanic Heritage Month is here, and in New Jersey, nearly 1 in every 4 residents is Hispanic or Latino.

According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Hispanics and Latinos make up 24% of New Jersey’s population, compared with about 20% nationwide.

With more than 9.5 million people living in New Jersey, Hispanic culture has become part of everyday life across the state. You see it in our neighborhoods, restaurants, small businesses, music, festivals and community events.

Some cities have an even larger Hispanic population. In Jersey City, for example, 25.7% of residents are Hispanic or Latino, according to Census QuickFacts.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15 and recognizes the history, cultures and contributions of Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.

For us, though, this one is simple.

Hispanic culture is a big part of Jersey.
