“HOUSE OF HORRORS”: SOUTH JERSEY TEEN ESCAPES YEARS OF ABUSE IN GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP
An 18-year-old girl who authorities say suffered years of horrific abuse has escaped captivity from a Gloucester Township home, triggering a criminal investigation that has shocked South Jersey.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the young woman had been held in deplorable conditions since 2018—when she was pulled out of school and isolated inside the home of Brenda Spencer, 38, and Branndon Mosley, 41.
What investigators uncovered:
- The victim was allegedly forced to live in a dog crate, later chained inside a padlocked bathroom, and eventually locked in a bare room with only a bucket to use as a toilet.
- The couple installed an alarm system to alert them if she tried to escape and only released her when family visited.
- Authorities say she was routinely beaten with a belt and sexually assaulted by Mosley.
- She finally broke free last week with the help of a neighbor.
When detectives searched the home, they found squalid conditions—including another 13-year-old child—and several animals, including dogs and chinchillas.
The charges:
Spencer and Mosley now face multiple charges, including:
- Kidnapping
- Aggravated assault
- Criminal restraint
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Conspiracy to commit kidnapping
Mosley, a SEPTA train conductor, is also charged with aggravated sexual assault and related sex crimes.
Both suspects are being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility, awaiting detention hearings in Superior Court.
