Hudson County's First Robotic Laser Cataract Surgery Performed in Secaucus

Hudson County just got a new piece of eye-surgery technology.
On Aug. 11, Dr. Brett Bielory performed what Hudson Regional Health says was the county’s first robotic laser cataract surgery at Secaucus University Hospital.
The hospital is now using the ALLY Robotic Cataract Laser System, a system that maps the eye, helps plan the procedure and guides the surgical team during treatment.
One of the biggest differences is that the entire procedure can be done in the same operating room. In some laser-assisted cataract surgeries, patients have to be moved between rooms during treatment.
Hudson Regional Health says that can make the process faster and more efficient.
The hospital is also one of only a handful in New Jersey currently using the system.
For Secaucus University Hospital, it’s another step in expanding its eye-care program. Earlier this year, Bielory also performed the hospital’s first cataract extraction with an intraocular lens implant.
