An 18-year-old Jackson Township man is accused of stabbing his grandmother to death, then calling 911 himself to report the murder, authorities said Monday.
Louis Brown has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in the death of 69-year-old Darlene Brown, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
Jackson police received a 911 call around 7 a.m. Monday from an apartment at the Jackson Green Apartment complex on Justin Way. The caller reported that someone had been murdered, the prosecutor's office said.
When officers arrived, Louis Brown was standing at the front door. He came out with his hands up and was taken into custody immediately, authorities said.
Inside the apartment, officers found Darlene Brown's body in an upstairs bedroom. She had visible stab wounds to her face and neck, and two knives were still lodged in her body, authorities said.
Investigators determined that Louis Brown was both the caller and the person who had stabbed his grandmother, the prosecutor's office said. No further details about what led up to the stabbing were released.
Louis Brown is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River pending a detention hearing.
