Jets owner Woody Johnson stated at the NFL owners meetings that the team won't release quarterback Zach Wilson if they can't find a trade partner.
Despite acknowledging that it would be better for Wilson to have a fresh start elsewhere, the Jets are not willing to simply give him away, considering him a valuable asset. General manager Joe Douglas has been in discussions with Wilson's agent and some teams regarding a trade, but nothing is imminent.
Johnson expressed regret that Wilson didn't have the opportunity to sit behind Aaron Rodgers last season as planned, believing it would have been beneficial for his development.
Reports suggesting Johnson has been blocking trade offers for Wilson were denied. Both the Jets and Wilson would benefit from a trade happening sooner rather than later, but it must be a move that works for the team. Douglas indicated it's too early to say if Wilson will remain with the Jets in 2024, as the offseason process is still ongoing.
