MURPHY URGES TRUMP TO JOIN FORCES AGAINST NYC CONGESTION PRICING
New Jersey Governor #PhilMurphy has reached out to President #DonaldTrump, urging collaboration on shared concerns, particularly the termination of New York City’s congestion pricing plan. In a letter sent following Trump’s inauguration, Murphy criticized the $9 congestion fee, implemented on January 5, as an “abusive, poorly designed” measure that imposes an undue financial burden on New Jersey commuters already paying existing tunnel and bridge tolls.
Murphy highlighted that #NewJersey was not meaningfully consulted during the plan’s development and emphasized the adverse economic impact on residents. He referenced Trump’s campaign statements opposing the toll and urged the President to act on his promise to terminate it.
This appeal aligns with actions from other political figures. In November, New York’s House Republicans requested President-elect Trump to terminate the congestion toll plan, describing it as “oppressive taxation” that financially burdens New York families.
Governor Murphy’s initiative reflects a broader effort to collaborate with the federal administration on issues impacting New Jersey residents, seeking to alleviate the financial strain imposed by the congestion pricing plan.
