A New Jersey family is facing an unimaginable loss after a young boy was killed in a tragic car crash while his family was in Ecuador.

According to a GoFundMe organized to support the family, Vanessa Gonzalez and her family were involved in a crash that claimed the life of her young son, Zechariah Diaz.

Now, while grieving the loss of her son, Vanessa and her husband remain in Ecuador as they navigate arrangements and the difficult process of eventually returning home to New Jersey.

The fundraiser says that process could take 20 to 30 days, keeping the family thousands of miles away from the friends, relatives and community who want to be there for them.

Zechariah was described as the center of his mother's world — the person who gave her purpose every single day.

And now, the community is showing up for his family.

As of Thursday morning, the GoFundMe had raised more than $28,000 toward its $30,000 goal, with the funds intended to help the family with expenses as they navigate the tragedy and the process of returning home from Ecuador.

No family should have to experience a loss like this, especially so far away from home.

Our hearts are with Vanessa, her husband, their family and everyone who loved Zechariah. ❤️🙏🏽
