NEW JERSEY NATIVE SYDNEY MCLAUGHLIN-LEVRONE WINS GOLD AND SETS A NEW WORLD RECORD IN THE 400M HURDLES

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, New Jersey native, from Dunellen, dominated the highly anticipated showdown against Femke Bol in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the Paris Olympics. McLaughlin-Levrone, the reigning Olympic champion, set a new world record with a time of 50.37 seconds, beating her previous record. Bol, who had claimed World Championship gold in McLaughlin-Levrone’s absence, could only secure the bronze medal. McLaughlin-Levrone’s remarkable speed and technique, honed during her time at Union Catholic High School, have made her one of track and field’s most dominant athletes, continuing her undefeated streak in the 400-meter hurdles since 2019.
