- Irvington, Essex County.
A Newark man will spend decades in state prison after being convicted of attacking a woman and a minor in Irvington.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Caream Davis, 46, was sentenced to 45 years in New Jersey State Prison following his conviction earlier this year on charges including aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The attacks happened during the early morning hours of June 3, 2024.
Prosecutors said a 51-year-old woman was walking dogs in Irvington when Davis approached her from behind and punched her. Davis later encountered a minor nearby, whom prosecutors said he strangled, sexually assaulted and threatened to kill.
Davis left New Jersey after the attacks and was arrested two days later in Richmond, Virginia, by the U.S. Marshals Service and Richmond police. He was extradited back to New Jersey on June 10, 2024.
A jury found Davis guilty on March 7, 2026, of two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping and several other charges.
Superior Court Judge Michael L. Ravin presided over the trial and sentencing.
Davis will not begin serving the 45-year sentence until August 19, 2028, after completing a separate sentence for a parole violation.
Assistant Prosecutor Logan Teisch said prosecutors hope the sentence provides some measure of closure for the victims and makes the Irvington community safer.
