NEWARK WOMAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR FEDEX DELIVERY DRUG TRAFFICKING
A Newark woman, Mahogany Hawkins, 32, was sentenced to 120 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine. Following her conviction after a two-day trial, U.S. Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas delivered the sentence in Camden federal court.
In March 2021, law enforcement intercepted two FedEx parcels containing cocaine addressed to "John Brown" in Newark. An undercover officer delivered these packages to Hawkins, who accepted them. When officers attempted to re-engage her, Hawkins delayed opening the door, leading officers to force entry and find her in her bedroom.
A search warrant for Hawkins' apartment revealed a locked backroom used for packaging narcotics. Officers found the intercepted packages, methamphetamine pills, more cocaine, empty vials, and a heat sealer. A loaded handgun and an extended magazine were also discovered. Besides her prison term, Hawkins received five years of supervised release.
