🚨 Nj Blizzard Update: Travel Ban, Closures, And Morning Commute Status
🚨 2:18 AM UPDATE: STATE OF EMERGENCY STILL IN EFFECT ACROSS NEW JERSEY
As of 2:18 AM Monday, February 23, 2026, New Jersey remains under a statewide State of Emergency and mandatory travel ban. If you’re thinking about heading out early, don’t.
❄️ Road Conditions & Travel Ban
• Mandatory Travel Ban: In effect for all 21 counties until 7:00 AM.
• Emergency Speed Limit: 35 MPH on all state and interstate highways.
• Commercial Vehicle Ban: Active on I-78, I-80, I-280, and I-287.
• Current Conditions: 2+ inches of snowfall per hour, wind gusts up to 55 MPH, and widespread whiteout conditions.
Officials are calling road conditions “treacherous to impossible.” This is not a routine winter commute.
🚆 Transit & Public Services
• NJ TRANSIT: All rail, bus, and light rail service fully suspended. Officials will reassess later today.
• PATH & Amtrak: Significant delays and cancellations — check before traveling.
• Governor Mikie Sherrill confirmed all state government offices are closed Monday.
🏫 School Closures
• The vast majority of K-12 districts statewide have canceled in-person classes.
• Monmouth University and Montclair State University have moved to fully remote operations.
• Most public districts are treating today as a traditional snow day, not remote learning, due to state law.
This is one of the more intense overnight winter events we’ve seen this season. If you don’t absolutely need to be out, stay home. We’ll continue monitoring conditions across North, Central, and South Jersey. Stay safe.
