South Jersey teacher accused of sexually assaulting her former student and giving birth to his child has been indicted.
A Cape May County grand jury indicted 34-year-old Laura Caron on Tuesday on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to court records.
Prosecutors allege that Caron, a fifth-grade teacher in the Middle Township School District, began sexually abusing her student when he was just 13 years old. In 2019, she gave birth to his child, according to an arrest affidavit.
Authorities say Caron initially offered to babysit the boy, his brother, and their sister, which gradually escalated to the children living full-time in her Cape May Court House home from 2016 to 2020. During that time, investigators say the abuse took place.
The boy, now older, has denied being a victim, telling authorities that he “started everything” and believes the charges against Caron should be dropped. However, his sister has publicly accused Caron of manipulating their entire family.
Caron is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on July 16.
