RUTGERS’ ACE BAILEY DRAFTED NO. 5 OVERALL BY UTAH JAZZ
Rutgers forward Ace Bailey is officially headed to the NBA, selected No. 5 overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday night.
The 6’8” freshman out of Rutgers University averaged 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game during the 2024–25 season, showcasing elite scoring ability, athleticism, and two-way potential. His performance earned him national attention and helped lead Rutgers to a resurgent season.
Bailey entered draft night as one of the most talked-about prospects, especially after declining workouts with several top-10 teams, including Utah. Despite the unconventional pre-draft strategy, the Jazz made their move — betting on Bailey’s upside as a dynamic wing scorer.
“Utah is getting a player with star potential,” one NBA scout said ahead of the draft. “He can shoot, finish above the rim, and has the tools to be special on both ends.”
Bailey now joins a young Utah core focused on development and long-term success. He becomes the second Rutgers player drafted in the top five this year, following teammate Dylan Harper, who went No. 2 to the San Antonio Spurs — marking a historic night for Rutgers basketball.
