A terrifying kidnapping in Dover ended with a rescue β all thanks to a smartwatch alert.
Authorities say an emergency SOS signal from an Apple Watch helped police track down a victim who had been violently abducted on the morning of March 19.
When officers responded to the alert, they arrived at the victimβs home but found it empty β with the victimβs car still parked outside. Minutes later, the damaged smartwatch was discovered about a mile away, raising immediate red flags.
That clue helped investigators move fast.
Detectives tracked down a suspect vehicle in Elizabeth and pulled it over, taking two suspects into custody without incident.
Inside the car, they found the victim in the back seat β injured but alive.
Officials say the victim suffered a head laceration, broken ribs, and other injuries. They were taken to the hospital and have since been released.
Authorities identified the suspects as 37-year-old Siquaya F. Smith and 40-year-old Louis G. Cadet, both of Northfield. They are now being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility.
Investigators say the suspects targeted the victim, forced them into a vehicle outside their home, and demanded a $25,000 transfer while making threats.
π¨ Officials believe this was a targeted attack. The investigation is ongoing.
