Authorities are investigating a devastating shooting in Newark’s South Ward that left a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman dead and three others wounded.
According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., officers responded around 7:00 p.m. Saturday to reports of gunfire on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue.
When police arrived, they discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The 10-year-old boy and the 21-year-old woman were rushed to University Hospital, where both were later pronounced dead.
Three additional victims — an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, and a 60-year-old man — were also hospitalized and are listed in stable condition.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
Essex County Sheriff Amir Jones announced a reward of up to $10,000 through the Essex County Crime Stoppers program for information leading to an arrest.
