TWO NJ SISTERS DIE AS HEROES, SAVING THEIR DISABLED FATHER FROM A THANKSGIVING HOUSE FIRE

A New Jersey family’s Thanksgiving turned into heartbreak when two sisters died while rescuing their disabled father from a fast-moving house fire, authorities said.

Frantzia Fleury, 49, and her sister Pojanee Fleury, 42, were killed as they helped guide their father out of their burning home on Mosswood Avenue near Tremont Avenue in the City of Orange, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Their father survived without injuries, along with six other people inside the home. The fire erupted around 5 p.m., and both sisters were pronounced dead at the scene at 6:45 p.m., officials said.

Pojanee — described on her website as a publisher, author, and inventor — wrote the memoir “Who’s Going to Invent That, You?” detailing her struggles and triumphs on the path to becoming an inventor. The African Immigrants’ Commission of New York and Connecticut honored her in a heartfelt Facebook post:

“Pj was a great, selfless community leader and a dedicated community servant. We are extremely sad. She will be missed dearly.”

Frantzia worked as a radiologic technologist at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, according to her LinkedIn. Nearly nine years ago, the day after Thanksgiving in 2016, she shared a Facebook photo hugging her father with the caption #DaddysGirl, a post that now feels tragically prophetic.

Neighbors said the family was known for their kindness and warm presence in the community.

“I just came here to look and saw the whole fire,” one resident told WPIX. “That’s heartbreaking — and on Thanksgiving, that’s hard. That’s really hard.”

“They kept their yard really nice and were always super friendly,” another neighbor, Matthew Mehr, told WABC.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
