Residents in Middlesex County and across the U.S. are being urged to stay alert as scammers ramp up efforts targeting customers of Public Service Enterprise Group (PSE&G).

According to officials, scammers posing as PSE&G representatives are reaching out through text messages, emails, and phone calls β€” often claiming your service terms have changed, a payment is missing, or that you’re owed a credit.

In many cases, victims are directed to fake websites that look nearly identical to official pages, with slight misspellings designed to trick users.

One of the more aggressive tactics involves callers warning that a technician is on the way to shut off service due to non-payment. These scammers may even confirm your correct address to sound legitimate before directing you to call a fake number to β€œfix” the issue.

Officials warn these scams are designed to steal sensitive information, including passwords and financial details.

Residents are also being cautioned about individuals showing up in person pretending to be utility workers.

If someone claims to represent PSE&G at your door, do not let them in without verifying proper identification. All legitimate employees are required to carry ID and show it upon request.

If something feels off, trust that instinct β€” don’t engage and contact authorities.

Customers can also verify legitimate service visits by calling PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-PSEG.

Authorities stress:

  • PSE&G will NEVER demand immediate payment over the phone
  • PSE&G will NEVER ask for sensitive personal information
  • PSE&G does NOT issue cash refunds in person

Any refunds are issued as account credits or mailed checks.

Residents are urged to avoid sharing personal information, enable two-factor authentication, and report suspicious messages immediately.
