A New Jersey native and retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant was shot and killed after an argument over a parking spot outside a Florida Walmart.

Authorities say 62-year-old Bart Diguglielmo, originally from Hammonton, was killed just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday outside the Walmart Supercenter in North Lauderdale.

According to investigators, Diguglielmo and an unidentified woman got into a verbal dispute over a parking space that quickly escalated. The woman allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot him.

Video shared on social media appears to show the confrontation. In the footage, the woman is seen stepping out of her vehicle with a gun while arguing with a man believed to be Diguglielmo. The two continue arguing and pointing at each other before Diguglielmo walks around another vehicle. Moments later, a single gunshot is heard and he collapses to the ground.

The woman told investigators she acted in self-defense.

Diguglielmo was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

His family says he proudly served during Operation Desert Storm and spent years in the Army as a combat nurse, combat medic, and tactical communications specialist before retiring as a nurse in Florida.

"He was a Christian man and a very good person and would not hurt anyone," his sister told CBS News Miami.

The woman involved has not been publicly identified, and no charges have been announced. The Broward County State Attorney's Office will decide whether charges will be filed after the investigation is complete.
