🚨 OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Hispanic student at Ocean Township Intermediate School was allegedly beaten so badly by two classmates that he had to be hospitalized, according to a source familiar with the incident.

The source claims the student was attacked by two Caucasian students using a metal water bottle and was also subjected to racial slurs. During the assault, one of the students allegedly threatened to call ICE on him.

Ocean Township Superintendent Kelly Weldon confirmed an altercation took place Tuesday afternoon and said the district is working with Ocean Township Police as the investigation continues. Because the incident involves juveniles, officials say they cannot release additional details.

The controversy grew after the school issued a shelter-in-place the following day without immediately informing parents, sparking backlash from families demanding answers.

In a letter to the community, Weldon acknowledged criticism over the district’s delayed communication, saying “we need to do better, and we will.”

Ocean Township Police Chief Mike Sorrentino said police will not release further information due to the ages of those involved.

State Sen. Vin Gopal said his office is aware of the “serious incident” and is working with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
