WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (Gloucester County), N.J. — A driver who went into cardiac arrest after crashing into a utility pole is alive today thanks to the quick actions of local police, including an officer working his first solo shift.

According to the Washington Township Police Department, officers responded around 8:23 p.m. on March 28 to Greentree Road near All American Assisted Living for a crash involving an unresponsive driver.

Within a minute, multiple officers arrived and found the woman locked inside the vehicle with no pulse.

Police forced entry by breaking windows, pulled her out, and immediately began CPR. Officers also used an AED, shocking her multiple times while performing lifesaving efforts for about seven minutes.

First responders from Washington Township Fire Department and EMS took over care before transporting her to the hospital.

Officials say the woman suffered a medical emergency that led to cardiac arrest, but is now expected to make a full recovery.

One of the responding officers was on his very first solo patrol shift.

Days later, the woman’s family met with the officers to thank them in person.

Real Hero moment.
