What happened
A fireworks recall landed just before the Fourth of July holiday, and New Jersey families should check anything they bought for backyard celebrations.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced recalls for two Winco Fireworks International products sold through Pyro City stores and independent retailers: Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake Fireworks and Roman Candles 8 Shot 3-pack firework devices.
The concern is serious injury from explosion and burn hazards. CPSC says the aerial cake fireworks can tip over during use, while the Roman candles can malfunction and shoot from the side of the tube.
The recalls cover more than 100,000 units combined. The Unity 7 Shot recall involves about 87,120 units, and the Roman Candles 8 Shot 3-pack recall involves about 13,500 units.
No injuries had been reported in the recall notices, but consumers are being told to stop using the recalled fireworks and return them for a refund.
Anyone who already purchased fireworks for the holiday should check the product name, model information, and packaging before using them.
